Is Chewing Gum Good or Bad For Your Teeth?

The truth is sugar-free gum is actually GOOD for your mouth and teeth!  Regular gum has sugar that will wash your teeth with cavity-causing sugar.  Chewing sugar-free gum is actually good for you because it helps you produce more saliva.  The more saliva you produce the more you effectively wash away existing food particles that can stick to your teeth, tongue or gums.

It’s also important to remember that chewing gum after meals is NOT a replacement for good dental hygiene!  You should absolutely still brush your teeth 2-3 times a days and floss regularly.  Saliva helps provide calcium and phosphate to your teeth, which are important elements to keeping your teeth strong and healthy!

If you’re not sure which gums are sugarless, give All Brite Dental a call today and we’ll be glad to direct you in the right direction.  Also, look for the ADA seal on your favorite brands of sugarless gum.  Please LIKE our Facebook page and FOLLOW our Twitter for more dental information and updates.
