How Long Should You Brush Your Teeth For?

Brush your teeth for two to three minutes for the best result! It may seem like a long time, but it isn’t. Spend half the time on your top teeth and the other half on your bottom.

To make sure you’re brushing for long enough, use a timer. There are also electric toothbrushes that have built in, self-timers, which will make the process that much easier!

Remember:
  • Use short strokes
  • Brush back and forth
  • Go around every tooth
  • Brush three times a day
  • Don’t forget to floss!
It’s up to you to protect your teeth! Make sure to LIKE our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter!

Tigers Baseball is Back!

With last season’s World Series ending in a 4-0 sweep by the Giants, Tiger’s fans were left with another case of “close but no cigar.” The 2013 season shows promise for the Tigers to complete this season  with a World Series championship, after getting so close last year and in 2011’s ALCS loss to the Rangers.

The signing of Torii Hunter brings a great addition to both the outfield and the batting order. Jim Leyland’s closer by committee approach is interesting, but if it works, it could bring the Tigers that much closer to the playoffs and World Series once again.

Catch the Tiger’s season opener this afternoon at 4:10 vs. the Minnesota Twins. It will be the beginnings of an interesting season. Comment and let us know your thoughts on the 2013 season!

Should You Choose a Manual or Electric Toothbrush?

Pros for a Manual Toothbrush:
•    Inexpensive compared to electric brushes.
•    Easy to use.
•    Easy to travel with, including compact options.
•    Puts less pressure on your teeth and gums.
•    Simple for children to use.

Pros for an Electric Toothbrush:
•    Less work to do (great for people with arthritis or limited upper body mobility)
•    Can include extra features such as pressure sensors or timers.
•    Rotating bristles can clean your teeth in a way that a manual brush could never do.

Whichever option you choose, make sure to choose a toothbrush with soft bristles and replace/change the head of an electric toothbrush every three months or when the bristles are no longer straight. Whichever comes first! For more information, check out the rest of the article here.

National Children's Dental Health Month Updates!

Have you been spreading the word about National Children's Dental Health Month?  As the month of February comes to a close, we want to remind all our family and friends on the importance of dental health in children!  It's important to establish good oral hygiene as a young child, and help prevent future dental problems down the line.  Below are some statistic on children's dentistry:

Tooth Decay is the Most Common childhood disease
  • 3 out of every 5 children are affected by tooth decay
  • Tooth Decay is 5 times more common than asthma
  • 16 million lack access to basic dental care
  • 51 million school hours missed due to oral disease
  • Every $1 spent on prevention in oral car can save you $8-$50 on restorative emergency procedures
  • 2 is too late! Take your child to see a dentist before age 1
  • Brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes
Let's all work together to put an end to tooth decay in children, especially since it's almost entirely preventable!  More Details: http://visual.ly/february-childrens-dental-health-month

Is Chewing Gum Good or Bad For Your Teeth?

The truth is sugar-free gum is actually GOOD for your mouth and teeth!  Regular gum has sugar that will wash your teeth with cavity-causing sugar.  Chewing sugar-free gum is actually good for you because it helps you produce more saliva.  The more saliva you produce the more you effectively wash away existing food particles that can stick to your teeth, tongue or gums.

It’s also important to remember that chewing gum after meals is NOT a replacement for good dental hygiene!  You should absolutely still brush your teeth 2-3 times a days and floss regularly.  Saliva helps provide calcium and phosphate to your teeth, which are important elements to keeping your teeth strong and healthy!

If you’re not sure which gums are sugarless, give All Brite Dental a call today and we’ll be glad to direct you in the right direction.  Also, look for the ADA seal on your favorite brands of sugarless gum.  Please LIKE our Facebook page and FOLLOW our Twitter for more dental information and updates.
