Because they are the last to emerge into your mouth,
wisdom teeth are the most common teeth to become impacted, usually around the
ages of 17-21.
An emerged wisdom tooth can cause pain, swelling and can
collect food and debris, which can lead to an infection and tooth decay.
Symptoms include:
- Swelling of the gums
- Difficulty opening the jaw
- Bad Breath
- Bad taste in the mouth
- Pain or irritation when opening your mouth, chewing, or biting
If any of these symptoms occur, have a check up with your
dentist. They will take X-rays and determine the next course of action, which
usually consists of removing all wisdom teeth at once, while you are under a
local anesthetic, performed by an oral surgeon.
