What Are The Benefits of Laser Dentistry? Find Out Here!

Laser dentistry is now more advanced than ever before! New laser technology is able to pick up on tooth decay at its earliest stage! Normally, dentists have to wait to see tooth decay on an x-ray when it is already at a late stage. The laser allows for early detection!

All You Need To Know About Laser Dentistry!

Laser Dentistry uses a specialized laser to produce an intense, narrow beam of light energy that, when in contact with tissue,  causes an immediate reaction that can remove or shape tissue.

Lasers were first introduced to dentistry in 1990 as a safe and effective treatment that helps with various dental procedures as well as other ordinary dental instruments.

Lasers are often used in many cases, for many different reasons. For example, lasers can:
-reduce the discomfort of canker and cold sores
-expose partially erupted wisdom teeth
-remove muscle attachments that limit proper movement
-manage gum tissue during impressions for crowns or other procedures
-remove overgrown tissues caused by certain medications
-perform biopsy procedures
-remove inflamed gum tissues and aid in the treatment of gum disease
-remove or reshape gum and bone tissues during crown lengthening procedures
-help treat infections in root canals
-speed up tooth whitening procedures

One reason why Laser Dentistry is becoming so popular is due to the benefits it provides. It often prevents the use of the drill or administer anesthesia, which results in a more relaxed dental experience for the patient, as well as providing a more precise result that leads to less symptoms and healing time with traditional therapies. Lasers  also reduces the amount of bacteria in both diseased gum tissue and in tooth cavities and controls bleeding during surgery.

Lasers are just as safe as other dental instruments. However when your dentist performs a laser procedure you will be asked to wear special eye glasses to protect your eyes from the rays, just as you would sunglasses.

Looking For A New Dentist? ALL BRITE is the place for you!

Are you looking for a new dentist? Are you unsatisfied with your previous service? Read the following testimonials and you’ll see why you should choose ALL BRITE DENTAL!

"Zia Rafiq, D.D.S., has been my dentist for the past five years. I call him Dr. Z, because he is so personable and friendly. In addition to his dental skills, what impresses me is Dr. Z's concern with patient comfort and pain avoidance. I no longer am anxious about dental visits. I have such confidence in Dr Z's skill, that I actually relax when I am in his dental chair. It is like visiting with a friend. He always thoroughly explains the procedure and continuously monitors my comfort. He uses the latest innovations and emphasizes prevention, like the space age mouth guard that prevents me from cracking more fillings and breaking more teeth, when I clench and grind my teeth at night. Patient care and follow up are such imperatives to Dr. Z, that he calls his patients at home, the evening of their office visit, to insure they are comfortable. That's what I call patient commitment."
-George M., Farmington Hills, MI

"Keeping dental appointments in the past was not something I looked forward to. Upon meeting Dr. Z, I must say that has changed my whole attitude. In addition to finding him to be very professional and knowledgeable, he is just plain fun to be around! I now enjoy my visits every six months. Keep up the good work Dr. Z."
-Major M., Detroit, MI

"Thank you so much for taken the fear of going to the dentist, out of my 8 year old daughter. She had such a bad experience at a dentist that was suppose to specialize in children, that I thought I would never get her to a dentist again. She has told me she will only see you. You were wonderful with her. She felt so comfortable with you. Thank you again!"
-Melody H.

"My Experience with Dr. Z's office has been a good one for me and my family. My children are very comfortable and not afraid. Dr. Z calls in the evening to make sure everything is OK which is reassuring for us. Overall Dr. Z and his staff are nice and courteous yet very professional."
-Kathleen S. Taylor, MI

Catch Up on Laser Dentistry- a New Technology to Alleviate Pain and Anxiety from the Average Drill or Scalpel

It has become more and more common for dentists to offer patients laser instead of the normal drill or scalpel in hopes to alleviate pain and anxiety.
Dentists use laser energy mixed with water molecules to remove the decay in a less invasive way. Lasers can remove small to medium-sized cavities and contour bone. As well as sterilize and enlarge root canals, remove canker sores and lesions, usually with no anesthetic, no drilling or cutting and little blood loss or swelling.

The new technology does come with a hefty price tag. Most lasers range from $40,000 to $50,000, which in response would boost the dentist’s fees and require additional costs. Since dental-insurance companies reimburse for surgery not technique so it may result in additional fees for the patient.
The laser is time efficient, enabling dentists to make more profit since they are able to perform more procedures. As the procedure has caught on it is becoming increasingly popular regardless to being the more expensive counterpart.
Patients are usually a fan of the laser. The elimination of the harsh needle and drilling makes getting a filling much more pleasant and enjoyable.
On the down side the laser is slower than the drill and won’t cut through metal, so the baby boomers would not be able to rely on the laser to get rid of their old mercury fillings.

Types of Lasers!

Waterlase MDLaser dentistry is becoming increasingly more popular. All Brite Dental features a few different types of lasers to fit your every need.

The first type of featured laser is the Diagnodent Laser, which is a cavity detector. This laser finds cavities in their earliest stages by using a healthy tooth in your mouth, that has no fillings or cavities and uses it as a baseline or zero reading. The laser then compares the amount of fluorescence/chaulkiness (breakdown of enamel due to acid) in the groove of each tooth to the baseline tooth. By detecting the cavity early enough, you only have to remove a little bit of the structure to place the filling! The bigger the filling, the weaker the tooth!

The second type of laser is The Waterlase MD, which is the hard/soft tissue laser. This laser energizes water droplets to remove and cut tooth structure and gum tissue without anesthesia, in most cases, with no pain or numbness at all! All the patient will feel is a fine water mist. The laser prepares the tooth surface for a tooth colored (bonded) filling increasing the bond strength by 50%. This laser also works miracles on cold sores in the mouth and lip by instantly stopping the pain and healing it twice as fast. Also, the chance of the cold sore reoccurring in the same spot is slim to none!

You May Be Wondering "What Exactly is Laser Dentistry?" Let Us Inform You!

Does your dentist’s office offer laser dentistry? It is estimate that only 5% of ALL dentists have laser dentistry available in their office! All Brite Dental is one of the few dentist offices in Michigan to provide this service!

You may be wondering what exactly laser dentistry is and what it does. Laser dentistry incorporates state-of-the-art technology in various aspects of dental health practice and treatment.  Some of the major benefits of laser dentistry include:
  •  Procedures performed using dental lasers may not require sutures.
  • Certain laser dentistry procedures do not require anesthesia.
  • Laser dentistry minimizes bleeding because the high-energy light beam aids in the clotting (coagulation) of exposed blood vessels, thus inhibiting blood loss.
  • Bacterial infections are minimized because the high-energy beam sterilizes the area being worked on.
  • Damage to surrounding tissue is minimized.
  • Wounds heal faster and tissues can be regenerated.

Laser Dentistry has opened the door for dentists to expand their expertise and services. With the laser, they are able to perform a variety of dental procedures they otherwise may not have been capable of. Some of these procedures include:
  • Benign Tumors: Dental lasers may be used for the painless and suture-free removal of benign tumors from the gums, palate, sides of cheeks and lips.
  • Cavity Detector: Low intensity soft tissue dental lasers may be used for the early detection of cavities by providing a reading of the by-products produced by tooth decay.
  • Viewing Tooth and Gum Tissues: Optical Coherence Tomography is a safer way to see inside tooth and gums in real time.
  • Cold Sores: Low intensity dental lasers reduce pain associated with cold sores and minimize healing time.
  • Crown Lengthening: Dental lasers can reshape gum tissue and bone to expose healthier tooth structure. Called crown lengthening, such reshaping provides a stronger foundation for a restoration.
  • Dental Fillings: Hard tissue dental lasers may eliminate the need for a local anesthetic injection and the traditional turbine drill. Lasers used in dental filling procedures are capable of killing bacteria located in a cavity and this may lead to better long term tooth restorations.
  • Muscle Attachment (Frenula): A laser frenectomy is an ideal treatment option for children who are tongue tied (restricted or tight frenulum) and babies unable to breast feed adequately due to limited tongue movement. A laser frenectomy may also help to eliminate speech impediments.
  • Nerve Regeneration: Photobiomodulation can be used to regenerate damaged nerves, blood vessels, and scars.
  • Sleep Apnea: In cases where sleep apnea is a result of a tissue overgrowth in areas of the throat (which sometimes occurs with age), a laser assisted uvuloplasty or laser assisted uvula palatoplasty (LAUP) procedure can be performed to reshape the throat and relieve the correlating breathing problems associated with sleep apnea.
  • Soft Tissue Folds (Epulis): Dental lasers may be used for the painless and suture-free removal of soft tissue folds often caused by ill-fitting dentures.
  • Teeth Whitening: Low intensity soft tissue dental lasers may be used to speed up the bleaching process associated with teeth whitening.
  • Temporomandibular Joint Treatment: Dental lasers may be used to quickly reduce pain and inflammation of the temporomandibular jaw joint.
  • Gummy Smile: Dental lasers can reshape gum tissue to expose healthy tooth structure and improve the appearance of a gummy smile.
  • Tooth Sensitivity: Dental lasers may be used to seal tubules (located on the root of the tooth) that are responsible for hot and cold tooth sensitivity.
