When Should Dental Care For Your Child Start?

Don’t wait until your little one has their first tooth, proper dental care beings before your baby’s first tooth arrives.

So what should you do before your child has teeth? You can run a damp washcloth over your child’s gums each day. This will help to remove harmful bacteria that are sticking around. When you start seeing teeth, use an infant toothbrush using water and a little bit of tooth paste. Around age 2, most children can spit after brushing. Make sure to supervise your child while they brush until they are around the age of 5.

Frequently Asked Questions from All Brite Dental!

Q:Are dental x-rays safe?
A:X-rays produce radiation which can also be found in sun, minerals in the soil, and appliances in your home.  Radiation can be dangerous but the dose of radiation you are exposed to is very very small.

Q: Does the dental drill hurt?
A:In some cases the dental drill can cause an individual to be uncomfortable.  We can administer numbing novocaine if a patient is feeling an increasing level of displeasure.  The good news is we offer pain free Laser Dentistry at both our offices.  Give us a call today for more information on the benefits of laser dentistry.

Q:Does over the counter teeth whitening products and toothpaste actually work?
A: Toothpaste and other products are very effective in removing stains from teeth.  Most over-the-counter teeth whitening products do not contain long lasting bleaching.  The bleaching you receive at your local dentist is much more powerful and will last longer periods of time.

Q: Which toothpastes are the best?
A: When purchasing toothpaste first think about who you are buying for.  For children, it’s best to use toothpaste that contains fluoride.  Toothpastes that contain fluoride can help prevent cavities.

Happy 12/12/12!

12/12/12 is the last major numerical date using the Gregorian or Christian calendar for almost another century!  Although December 21, the Mayan calendar predicted doomsday, has been the talk of this December, December 12 is getting some attention too.

Here are a few interesting facts about December 12, 2012 or 12/12/12:
  • 12/12/12 is the last repeating numerical date until January 1, 2101 or 01/01/01.
  • Time will hit SIX repeats at 12:12:12 p.m. on 12/12/12.
  • At the precise second 1:21:02 a.m. the date-time combination will read the same forwards and backwards:  2012-12-12 1:21:02 = 201212-1-212102.
  • Dec. 12 has had some of the greatest artists born.  “Madame Bovary” author Gustave Flaubert (1821), Norwegian artist Edvard Munch (1863), singer Frank Sinatra (1915), abstract expressionist Helen Frankenthaler (1928), San-Jose seeking Dionne Warwick (1940), jazz drummer Tony Williams (1945).

In addition, Dec. 12 is National Ambrosia Day.  Once known as the food of the gods, now known as fruit combined with Cool Whip, also, sweetened coconuts, maraschino cherries, and mini-marshmallows.

Fluoride is a mineral that helps prevent tooth decay by building a wall between the tooth and acid from plaque and sugars in the mouth.
