Are Sports Drinks Bad For Teeth?

A new study shows that sports and energy drinks contain a high acidity level. The acid eats away at the outer layer of enamel, causing serious, irreversible damage. The damage to the enamel leaves the teeth more prone to cavities.

It is recommended to chew sugar-free gum or rinse your mouth out when finished with a sports or
energy drink. Doing so will help increase saliva, which helps to return the acidity level back to normal.

Do you drink sports or energy drinks regularly? Are you worried about your teeth? Stop by All Brite
Dental for a checkup and cleaning today!  Let us know what you think about popular sports drinks harming your teeth on our Facebook page, Linked Here!

25-year-old William Kennewell spent three years drinking between six and eight liters of soft drink each day!  Even though dentists warned William about the dangerous problems that can come along with his bad habit, he wasn't able to kick his addiction.

"I'm told a normal person has about 23 teeth, but...I only had 13 left adn they had to be removed," said William.  "Because my teeth were decaying so badly, it caused blood poisoning which just made me sick, buy my health improved with the dentures."

Since learning of his health issues, William had to have ALL his teeth removed!  His tooth decay was so serious that it was effecting his overall health, cause him to get severally sick.  Read the rest of the story here, http://goo.gl/3YXzC.

Sour Candy Is Almost As Bad For Your Teeth As Battery Acid!

Do you have a sweet tooth?  Are you starting to get a number of cavities?  There's a good possibly that the cavities you are getting now are from eating all that sour candy when you were a kid.  Recent studies have shown that the pH scale levels of many sour candies can be very harmful, and even wear down your tooth enamel.  The pH scale is a scientific way to measure the acidity or alkalinity of water soluble substances. The pH value is numbered from 1 to 14; with 7 being the middle neutral point (Water is a 7). The way the pH scale works is, 1 is the most acidic and 14 is the least. On the right is a chart showing the different pH levels of the most popular sour candies. As you can see, battery acid is the most acidic at a 1 pH value.

In addition to this scary information, it’s important to understand that tooth enamel doesn’t grow back!  The body designed tooth enamel as the hardest substance in the human body in order to protect your teeth from wearing down.  Sour candy is unhealthy for your overall being due to the problems they may cause in the future.

Stop by All Brite Dental’s Dearborn or Woodhaven office today for a full service checkup.  And remember, think about your teeth the next time you are about to snack on some candy!  For more dental information, updates, and yes, some humor too, LIKE our Facebook and FOLLOW our Twitter!
