Do you know what the top 10 dental symptoms are that there could be an issue? Take a look below!

Toothache:  If your mouth or jaw hurt it could be from a toothache.  Toothaches can indicate a few things.  Most commonly it is because of a cavity, but it can also be a sign of gum disease.  In some cases, although it is rarer, it can be caused by an abscess or impacted tooth.  A toothache should be brought to the attention of your dentist right away to prevent the tooth from dying.

Sensitive Teeth:  If you have sensitive teeth you may experience discomfort or pain when you drink hot or cold beverages.  There are many cause for sensitive teeth such as tooth decay, fractured teeth, worn fillings, gum disease, worn tooth enamel or and exposed tooth root.  Treatment will depend on the cause of sensitivity.

Bleeding or Sore Gums:  Bleeding or sore gums can be a sign of gingivitis, an early and reversible stage of gum disease.  Soreness can also be the simple result of brushing your teeth too hard or starting a new flossing routine.  If your gums bleed regularly or excessively, make an appointment with your dentist, it could be the sign of something worse.

Mouth Sores:  Mouth can be a variety of things such as canker sores, cold sores, leukoplakia and candidiasis.  They vary in their sensitivity and causes.  Mouth sores can be the result of a disease or disorder, infection from bacteria, viruses or fungus, or caused by irritation from braces, dentures or a broken tooth.  You should have your dentist examine any sore lasting longer than a week.

Bad Breath:  Bad breath or halitosis can be caused by what you eat, not cleaning, dry mouth, smoking or medical conditions.  Persistent bad breath can be a warning sign of gum disease.  Brushing your teeth twice daily and flossing are essential to reducing bad breath and preventing gum disease.

Jaw pain or Popping or Clicking:  This symptom can be very hard to diagnose because there are so many causes.  Possibilities include sinus problems, toothache, arthritis, injury, teeth grinding, gingivitis or problems with your jaw like TMJ.

Dry Mouth:  Dry mouth may be the symptom of a medical disorder or a side effect of certain medications.  Saliva is the mouth’s primary defense against tooth decay.  Our saliva washes away food and other debris, neutralizes acids produced by bacteria in the mouth and fights diseases throughout the mouth.

Oral Piercing Infection:  Oral piercings can create a wide range of problems for your health.  Your mouth is an ideal place for an infection to start because it houses so much bacteria.  Signs of infection include swelling, pain, fever, chills, shaking or red streaked appearance.\

Cracked or Broken Teeth:  cracked teeth can be the result of many reasons like brittle teeth, grinding or injury.  The crack can be invisible to the naked eye or even X-ray.

Stained or Discolored Teeth:  Over time your teeth can become stained and change color.  Often from the result of eating certain foods and from cigarettes and coffee.
